On Sunday Surf School headed up to the North Shore, to witness the wedding of TGSS Crew James and Robin. Videographer James married his dream surfer girl Robin in a romantic sunset wedding. The wedding was staged in paradise at the exclusive Billabong House on Pipeline Beach. The rain held off and the sun shone as Mr & Mrs Erb said “I do”! Instructor Joey played sweet sounds on his Ukulele as the bride walked to her groom. Then it was party time, as we feasted on a traditional Hawaiian plate lunch style buffet before treated to delicious cakes decorated with long boards. It was the perfect surfer style wedding… understated classic chic created by two surfer soul mates and their baby Gracie who carried the rings in her collar! Enjoy the surf school wedding album…

Some of you may have heard the rumors and yes it’s true! Ty Gurney Surf School is opening a rad new shop in Waikiki this March 2010. The count down is on as the TGSS crew completes a monster remodel. Located near the corners of Lewers Street and Kalia Road, this new spot will be the fresh TGSS headquarters. What’s so super cool is Ty and the surf school crew is doing the renovation, and so far it is very impressive. The feel is vintage surf shack style, with white wash wood panel walls and classic timber fittings and fixtures. We will also have a cool hang out area where you can come and watch your surf movies and battle the instructors at play station after your surf session. Everybody is helping. There is videographer James, also known as the paint master & foreman, Instructor Joey the chief spiritual advisor & tradesman extraordinaire, Instructor Troy aka the Spackle Kid, Robin Queen of the Sander and Instructor Ty who looks like “Bob the Builder” in his tool belt containing nothing but surf wax! They all are sweating and laboring making the coolest surf shop in the world! Oh and I must not forget Instructor Tucker and myself, Beach Girl or should I say the team masters of minimal manual labor and specialists of turning a run to City Mill for supplies into a long lunch! However as a team we are slowly building and creating something special. Every element in the shop has a customized hand touch. TGSS will be the hippest place to hang out after a surf session and will have the coolest surf swag to buy on island. Only the miraculous Hawaiian surfing instructor Joey Caroll could make this Trandem surf session look easy! Trying to balance a surfboard with two cute as pie giggling girls dancing on it is a challenge. Yesterday Charlotte and Maddy, two surfing best friends visiting Waikiki from Sydney, Australia had the time of their lives. The two surfing princesses aged 5, wanted to do everything together so the Ty Gurney Surf School instructors made their wish come true! Tandem lessons are a great way to introduce kids to surfing and water safety. Having the instructor on the same board gives children the confidence to ride the big waves; so in the future they can ride their own surfboard. It is just like a ride at Disneyland!

Why do I get call after call from customers wanting to take surf lessons with Ty?
From kids to adults and even dogs, everybody loves surfing with Ty. Ty’s passion for surfing and positive personality is addictive. Your lesson starts on the beach with a land and safety session, you’re lying facedown on a monster surfboard looking into the distance at what now suddenly appears to be gigantic waves, and your mind is racing… “What was I thinking when I booked a surf lesson!” your heart is pounding and the fear factor sets in. But then something amazing happens. Ty starts talking and you start believing you can do this, you actually feel you can ride those waves. From that moment on, it’s a journey of laughter, exhilaration and adventure and best of all this feeling stays with you long after the lesson finishes. You feel this way because Ty knows he can have you riding waves and his confidence and trust transmits to you.
You hear about horse whisperers, dog whisperers and baby whisperers, Ty Gurney is the wave whisperer!
I love this picture of Ty with his beloved English bulldog “Mabel”. Ty taught Mabel how to surf, skateboard and love life. I love how relaxed and happy Mabel looks. I see these faces grinning from ear to ear after a surf session with Mr Gurney everyday! That is what makes my job so fun, always being around happy people.
